Apple may launch magnetic Crossbody Strap for iPhone 17

Apple might be preparing a new way to carry your iPhone without your hands or your pockets. According to a fresh leak, the upcoming iPhone 17 could launch with a magnetic Crossbody Strap, offering a sleeker, more secure option for everyday portability.

The leak, shared by known tipster Majin Bu, comes from images of alleged iPhone 17 TechWoven case packaging. While unconfirmed, these accessory boxes reference an unreleased “Crossbody Strap,” a magnetic wearable designed to attach directly to new cases without traditional clips or loops.

That would mark a first for Apple, which has never offered a strap accessory for iPhones outside of wrist-based lanyards.

The Crossbody Strap is reportedly built with a flexible metal core that allows the entire strap to act magnetically. Each end would include polarized rings, locking the system into place with opposing magnetic forces. This eliminates dangling hooks or clasp systems entirely.

Instead, users would simply snap the strap into their case magnetically, then remove it just as easily.

The leak also suggests that this strap may be compatible with Apple’s upcoming AirPods Pro 3 case. That would align with Apple’s recent hardware trend toward universal accessories and MagSafe-based attachment methods.

So far, no word on strap length or whether Apple will offer different styles or finishes. However, the “crossbody” label hints at a longer form factor, something more versatile than a neck lanyard and tailored for real-world movement.

Alongside the strap, Apple seems to be revamping its case lineup altogether:

If true, these changes could signal Apple’s renewed focus on accessories with more practical and stylish appeal, not just brand polish.

The idea of carrying a $1,000+ device by a strap might sound risky, but the proposed magnetic system seems engineered with strength and stability in mind. If Apple gets the execution right, it could offer a truly hands-free option for users who don’t want their phones stuck in a pocket or bag.

We’ve seen lanyards and magnetic accessories before, but nothing quite like this. And if Apple pulls it off, the Crossbody Strap might be more than a gimmick. It could be your next everyday essential.
